Project 2: Ensure safe port- and bunkering operations for sustainable zero-carbon fuels

The safety risks of zero-carbon fuels, along with the various new fuel technologies and safety systems, introduce new complexities to ship design and operations, including bunkering. Bunkering operations involve multiple stakeholders and regulatory contexts. A harmonized approach to the bunkering safety—supported by a growing network of bunkering sites and green shipping corridors—would enhance efficiency and consistency

Objective:

Support progress towards safe and harmonized bunkering practices in the Nordic region

Key actions:

  • Risk assessment for bunkering operations
    • Draft safety guidance for ports
    • Assess port readiness using IAPH tool
    • Collect best practices for onshore power supply

Deliverables:

Technical report, safety guidance document, port readiness report, best practice summary
