Six green shipping corridors have been selected for support under the Nordic Roadmap Phase 2 programme, announced at the programme’s event in Gothenburg May 7. The initiative aims to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission shipping across the Nordic region.
Chosen from an initial long list of 38 candidates, the selected corridors were picked based on their maturity, likelihood of deployment, strong stakeholder backing, geographical spread in the Nordics and the ability to drive broader industry learning on various fuels and ship segments.
The programme will support projects in reaching final investment decision (FID) or overcoming remaining barriers to the uptake of alternative fuels.
The six corridors:
- Samskip – Hydrogen-powered container vessel between Oslo and Rotterdam
- Skarv Shipping – Ammonia-fuelled timber transport along Norway to continental Europe
- Port of Gothenburg / DFDS – RoRo routes using biomethane between Gothenburg, Ghent, and Zeebrugge
- ESL Shipping – Methanol-fuelled bulk vessels in Sweden–Finland–Europe trade
- Södra – Biofuel-based paper pulp logistics from Sweden to Europe
- Viking Line – Battery-electric RoPax ferry between Helsinki and Tallinn
Phase 2 support includes:
- Technical & safety: infrastructure assessments, concept evaluation
- Commercial: business case development, funding pathways
- Organisational: fuel competence and stakeholder alignment
Together, the corridors form a Nordic testbed for green shipping, generating lessons in infrastructure, safety, and regulation that will benefit the wider maritime sector.
