Nordic Roadmap – Status update December 2024
We are now nearing the end of the third year of the Nordic Roadmap project.
The High-Level Conference on Green Shipping in the Nordic Region in Copenhagen on 3 December 2024, was a project highlight. The Fuel Transition Roadmap for Nordic Shipping was handed over to Nordic Ministers and results from our three ongoing green shipping corridor pilot studies were presented. The Roadmap is available on the project website.
The Fuel Transition Roadmap for Nordic Shipping responds to the Nordic government commitments for decarbonisation of shipping and the ambitions in the IMO strategy. It is a unified fuel transition strategy with a strong focus on safety. The Roadmap identifies 3 key barriers to the uptake of zero-emission fuels and provides 20 specific actions to overcome these barriers. The Nordic governments now need to implement the urgent actions identified in the Roadmap, including:
- Contribute to closing the cost gap
- Set up competitive tenders for green corridors
The actions will provide confidence for the industry to invest in zero-emission vessels, and the needed fuel infrastructure. By leading the way, the Nordics can benefit from value creation and boosted exports, and play a key role in the global fuel transition.
The ongoing pilot studies are feasibility studies aiming to identify and overcome key barriers for establishing a specific green shipping corridor. The pilot studies will be finalized in the first quarter of 2025 and the reports will be made available on the project website.
The Nordic collaboration platform has been expanded to more than 70 partners across the Nordic maritime value chain. The project has been promoted at relevant events, including:

- European Hydrogen Week in Brussels, 19 November 2024
- Green Shipping Programme partner meeting in Oslo, 11 December 2024
