A small greeting from the broader kick-off meeting in the Gothenburg – Frederikshavn green corridor pilot study
On September 4, partners interested in joining the Gothenburg – Frederikshavn green corridor pilot study within the Nordic roadmap for zero-carbon fuels project met for a kick-off meeting. The main aim of the meeting was to present the scope of the pilot and introduce the partners from different Nordic countries and organizations to each other. Expectations and potential contributions from different partners were also discussed.
The pilot owner is Stena Line (represented at the meeting by Magnus Lander, Anna Forshamn and Anders Peterson) and the pilot is facilitated by IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute (Karl Jivén, Julia Hansson, Nils Jutblad and Sara Svedberg).
To main aim of the pilot study is to identify the key barriers and next steps to turn the Gothenburg-Frederikshavn ferry route into a green shipping corridor. This includes to map barriers, identify funding possibilities that could support the transition, assess cost and potential for selected fuel options (e.g., methanol versus biofuels and electricity) for the ferries on the Gothenburg-Frederikshavn route and to identify key partners for the realization.
Besides Stena Line and IVL, one or several representatives from the port of Gothenburg (Sweden), port of Fredrikshavn (Denmark), the energy company Göteborg Energi (Sweden), the Finnish Shipowners Association (Finland), PBI Institute (Finland), the Methanol Institute (Belgium) and an independent advisor/expert on PtX and biofuels (Denmark) participated in the digital meeting (see Figure below). Most of the partners have not been involved in joint projects before and were very happy to get this opportunity to support the development of a Nordic green shipping corridor. DNV (Norway) will also be involved, and more actors are welcome to support the pilot study!
