We are now nearing the end of the Nordic roadmap project (2022-2025), but we are hoping for a continuation of this important work in a new project. During the project period, the Nordic collaboration platform increased to more than 70 partners.
The main outcome of the Nordic roadmap project was the development and handover of the Fuel transition roadmap for Nordic shipping in December 2024, using results from the deliverables listed below. The roadmap aims to accelerate the fuel transition for Nordic shipping, specifying 20 actions needed to tackle the identified barriers related to demand and cost, fuel availability, and technology and safety. Other key achievements in the Nordic roadmap project have been a complete proposal for ammonia fuel guidelines submitted to the IMO in 2023 from the Nordic countries, supporting the development of global safety regulations. Work has also been done on hydrogen fuel safety. In addition, the project has recently finalized green shipping corridor pilot studies in the Nordics, where the reports have been made available on the project website:
- Gothenburg-Frederikshavn, focusing on methanol, with Stena as pilot owner
- Esbjerg-Immingham, focusing on ammonia, with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners as pilot owner
- Oslo-Rotterdam, focusing on hydrogen, with Port of Oslo as pilot owner
Collaboration has been made with the Nordic pilot project for the establishment of green shipping corridors – Phase I and II (deliverables listed in the table below). This includes findings from the workshop “Addressing the cost gap” held in march 2025, and a new overview of existing public funding and financing opportunities relevant for Nordic green shipping corridors and their stakeholders, the Nordic Corridor Funding Database.
During Nor-Shipping, the Nordic roadmap project in collaboration with DNV and the Green Shipping Programme is organising panel discussions on 4th June at Lekter’n, Oslo, addressing the future of shipping – fuels, finance, and feasibility. There is no registration for this event – first come, first served. Hope to see you there!
